Sectional sofas are a great choice for the family room. They offer a more casual seating arrangement for the family that is perfectly designed for conversation. The sectional sofa is generally an “L” shaped sofa, but you will also find sectionals that have a chaise lounge at the opposite end giving the sofa a “U” shape. In addition you will find that these sofas offer many other possible features.
A sectional sleeper features one section that folds out into a bed. The folding bed is a good option to provide sleeping accommodations for overnight guests. The bed is probably best for smaller adults or children as a common complaint with larger adults is the bar across the back.
Sectionals are available in a variety of upholstery, including the leather sectional sofa and the microfiber sectional sofa. Leather sofas are easy to keep clean. Spills can be quickly wiped up with a towel without soaking into the sofa. Microfiber sectionals are covered in a fabric that breathes and can offer comfortable seating during the summer.
Many sectional sofas available today feature incliners. These sofas feature one or more seats that allow the rack to lean back and support the feet for greater comfort. Incliners can sit directly against the wall and operate perfectly.
One of the relatively new sectionals is theater seating for the home theater. This sofa offers seating for three to four persons with a wide arm between each seat. The arm may feature cup holders and places to sit food while watching your favorite movies or sporting events on television. Each seat in this sectional also features a footrest that allow you to watch with your feet elevated.
If you only have a small living area, the small sectional sofa may be the perfect choice. It can help to add more seating to a home by sitting in the corner of the home. A small sleeper can offer a twin or full sized bed. In a studio apartment, the small sleeper can double as the bed for one or two people.
There are some disadvantages to sectionals, however. In many rooms, the sofa will only fit in one place. This means that it is not possible to rearrange the room into different configurations. In addition, many people are not comfortable in sitting in the middle spot of the sofa, so instead of providing seating for six to eight people, the sectional may only provide seating for four. Sectionals that have armrests between the seats can allow more people to sit on the sofa in comfort.
When choosing sectional sofas you will also want to take into consideration colors as well as patterns. If your area has wall to wall carpet, you will want to choose a coordinating color unless you are planning to replace the carpet as well. Another alternative to consider is adding a large area rug that would cover most of the carpet that matches the sofa of your choice. Additionally, you may want to choose side chairs and other seating for the room.
